Prague. So if you haven't heard, I went to Prague to take the college entrance exam. It was also kind of like a campus tour too. I saw all of Prague, and I think the architecture's beautiful, but that's about it. I went to the "Fakultni Nemocnice" (Faculty of Medicine), and I couldn't believe it was actually a hospital. There was dust everywhere, and the whole place was just plain filthy. If that hospital were in America, it would've been shut down for bad health conditions. I also went to their dorm, Kajetonke. I could not believe the way my friends were living! They live in a room about the size of my closet, barely any room to move, and they shared bathrooms and the kitchen. Plus, they have no A/C wherever you go, and during the summer months, like now, it can get pretty musty. The students there have to go through so many hardships just to go to school. The professors can fail you on a whim. For things like: not wearing a tie to your exam, if they’re in a good mood or not, or whatever. They also have no grading scheme; no rubrics or anything for your advantage that can help you. It’s all up to them. Enough about the school, now about the country itself. The people are so crude. My dad met a Nigerian lady in the hotel, and she told my dad that a restaurant refused to let her in because she was black. I had a feeling they had a lot of racists anyway, because everywhere you go they stare at your clothes and your hair and you! Another reason I decided not to stay there is because of my religious beliefs. 60% of the people there are atheist. The rest is mostly Catholic, and I'm Christian. So I wasn't sure that I would get a church near me that I could go to. Another big problem in Prague is the crime. Imagine not being able to walk on the street without the security that you wouldn't get robbed or mugged. Everywhere I went I had to make sure of who was around me, and be extra a careful around people that looked like pickpockets. Prostitution and smoking are their other big issues. In the night all these people prostitute themselves at the museum, and 70% of their population smokes. I don't know if I could've stayed there with all these things in mind AND learn the Czech and Latin languages just to save TWO years of school. I guess I'm glad that I’m staying in America. Austin College Class of 2010. Go Roos! Don't worry Amber, your postcards are coming soon.
